Why is Independence Day celebrated?

On July 5, Independence Day is celebrated because on a day like this but in 1811 , the Act of the Declaration of Independence of Venezuela was signed, with which we not only emancipated ourselves from the Spanish monarchy but also became the first nation in Ibero-America to declare itself free.

The document was drawn up by the deputy and politician Juan Germán and the secretary of Congress, Francisco Isnardi. A few days later, this text was ratified by all the deputies of Congress on July 7, 1811.

The signing of the Act of the Declaration of Independence is the central act of the political-legal process that begins on April 19, 1810 and ends on December 21, 1811 with the promulgation of the first Constitution of Venezuela.

At that time, the provinces of Barinas, Barcelona, Cumaná, Margarita, Mérida and Trujillo joined the cause of Caracas, however, Maracaibo, Guayana and Coro did not join the Congress on that occasion, although later they did join the the independence struggle.
