Origin of the Day of the National Flag of Venezuela
On August 3, 1086 , that is, 215 years ago, General Francisco de Miranda together with the Liberating Expedition , set foot on Venezuelan lands for the first time where he deployed and hoisted the tricolor flag for the first time in the city of La Vela de Coro, current state of Falcón.
Because of this, the National Flag Day in Venezuela is celebrated on this day. However, at first, the day of this national symbol was commemorated on March 12, because in that same year, but a few months before, on March 12, Miranda raised the tricolor flag for the first time in Jacmel, Haiti.
Miranda's expedition left New York, United States, for Venezuela on February 2, 1806 with 200 men. The purpose of the trip was to found an independent Republic on American soil.
Along with the change of date of the National Flag Day , in 2006 it was modified for the last time, adding one more star, so that the flag instead of seven, now displays eight stars. This modification refers to the inclusion of the Province of Guayana, based on the decree of Simón Bolívar of November 20, 1817.
