What happened in the Battle of Carabobo?
The Battle of Carabobo took place on June 24, 1821 near the city of Valencia. The battle was the product of one of the most emblematic characters in our history: Simón Bolívar. For this combat approximately 6 thousand men were gathered, which were organized in three divisions under the command of Generals José Antonio Páez, Manuel Cedeño and Ambrosio Plata.
These divisions defeated in just a few hours the Spanish led troops led by General Miguel de la Torre. The victory obtained in the Battle of Carabobo was crucial to close the process of independence of Venezuela and for the liberation of the city of Caracas and those populations that were still under Spanish power. The definitive liberation and independence will come in 1823 with the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo and the taking of the fortresses of Puerto Cabello.
On this day, June 24 , Venezuela also celebrates the Bolivarian Army Day ; celebration that was born in 1949 by decree of Colonel Delgado Chalbaud in honor and tribute to the patriotic troops who fought bravely in the events that occurred during the Battle of Carabobo.
